Gua Sha Trends to Avoid in 2023

Here’s what not to do with your Gua Sha

There’s a TikTok trend going around you should definitely skip. It involves migrated filler and your Gua Sha. And I, Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co, am here to make sure you stay safe from this misinformation.

For those who don’t know, a Gua sha is a tool to rub the skin in long strokes. If used correctly, it applies enough pressure to create minor bruising. While the tool can help break down scar and connective tissue, it is not a filler migration fixer. And despite that, many on social media are showing videos of themselves using gua sha to move their migrated filler back into place. In fact, using a gua sha can actually move around fresh filler or Botox, so it’s best to avoid using it for two weeks after being injected.

Yes, sometimes filler migration happens. No, you cannot move it back into place with a gua sha, no matter what social media says. The only way to fix migrated filler is by dissolving it. This is one of many reasons why it’s important to go to a trusted and educated injector, like me, Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co is a must when it comes to injectables.

There are a few other rules when it comes to what not to do after getting injectables.

  • Stay away from intense cardio. It can raise your blood pressure which can cause bruising or swelling at the injection site.

  • Don’t apply makeup directly after. Needles leave tiny pricks in the face and you wouldn’t want any bacteria getting in there.

  • Don’t lay down for at least four hours after getting injected. This can actually help prevent migration so you don’t have to go to TikTok in search of crazy methods to fix your injectables.

  • Avoid alcohol. Yup, it causes bruising.

And whatever you do, don’t use a gua sha as an attempt to move migrated filler back into place. Come see me and we will dissolve it and start anew instead.
